A case was filed today (September 15) against 36 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for the murder of Dhaka Times journalist Mehedi Hasan while he was covering the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital’s Jatrabari area.

Other prominent accused in this case are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Huq Inu, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Habibur Rahman, Harun-Or Rashid and Biplab Kumar Sarker.

The court, after recording the statement of the complainant, asked the Jatrabari police station to register the case as a First Information Report (FIR).

Mehedi was shot dead near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Bridge in Kazla area of ​​Jatrabari on the evening of July 18. He was on assignment to cover the anti-discrimination student movement in the area.
