Cooper Kupp suffers ankle injury in Rams’ loss to Cardinals, leaves locker room in walking boot

Los Angeles scored its only touchdown late in the third quarter and allowed Arizona to score 17 points in the second half to lose in stunning fashion.

Although the loss dropped Los Angeles to 0-2, more concerning is the Rams’ accumulation of injuries.

Puka Nacua, who made his rookie debut in 2023, suffered a sprained PCL in the team’s season opener and could be out until Week 9, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning.

While the severity of Kupp’s injury is still unknown, it would be a major blow to the Rams’ rebounding chances if he missed an extended period.

Matthew Stafford is already working behind a patchwork offensive line — Joe Noteboom and Steve Avila were placed on injured reserve Wednesday along with Nacua — and will have to cope without his top two receivers.

The Rams have a huge divisional game coming up, as they host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3.

McVay, for what it’s worth, believes his players will rise to the occasion.

“I know they continue to fight,” McVay said when asked about the locker room dealing with mounting injuries. “We’ve got a lot of mentally tough guys in this locker room. It’s those moments where you’re tested. I know when I look back on my growing moments, they’ve never happened in good times. They’ve only happened in moments like this. It’s one of those moments where you get a pit in your stomach and you have a choice, hey, do you want to attack or do you want to lay down? And I’ll bet a lot of guys they’re going to stand up.”
