Kolkata rape and murder case: Kapil Sibal seeks stay of ongoing proceedings; Supreme Court denies, ‘in public interest’

The Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing a self-initiated case related to the rape and murder of a doctor who graduated from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. During the proceedings, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the West Bengal government, sought a halt to the live telecast of the case, but his request was rejected by the Supreme Court. The top court said it would not stop the live telecast of proceedings in the Kolkata rape and murder case as it is in public interest.
