Supreme Court orders Wikipedia to remove victim’s name and photo

Kolkata Rape and Murder Case: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a strict order to Wikipedia to remove the name and photo of the Kolkata victim in order to preserve the dignity of the deceased. The order was issued by the Supreme Court immediately after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court that the victim’s name and photo were still on the Wikipedia page. The CJI said Wikipedia should take necessary action and comply with the orders issued.

Supreme Court refuses to stop live broadcast of case

The Supreme Court on Tuesday began hearing a case of rape committed by a Kolkata doctor. During the proceedings, West Bengal government counsel Kapil Sibal requested the court to stay live telecast of the case, which the Supreme Court denied, saying it was a matter of public interest.

Kabil Sibal’s co-lawyers threatened

Sibal also said that lawyers in his firm were receiving threats on social media and people on the ground were also making comments. He added that women lawyers in his firm were also receiving threats of acid attack and rape.

In this regard, the Supreme Court assured that the Supreme Court would intervene in the matter if necessary and take necessary steps.

A bench comprising Chief Justice CY Chandrachud, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra is hearing the matter.
