Drunk driver arrested with children in car

A drunk driver arrested after being tipped off by police had been driving with his children in the car, a court heard.

A member of the public called 999 to report a man, believed to be drunk, getting into the driver’s seat of a Toyota Corolla in Sugar Way, Woodston, Peterborough, on August 24.

Prince Siziba, 32, said at the side of the road that his blood alcohol level was 103 mg per 100 ml of alcohol. The legal limit is 35 mg.

Cambridgeshire Police described his actions as “incredibly selfish”.

Siziba, of Linnet, Orton Wistow, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on September 13 where he admitted drink-driving and driving without insurance.

He was banned from driving for 25 months and ordered to pay a £350 fine.

Police spotted his car on Oundle Road, where Siziba was seen crossing the centre lines several times before stopping.

He reportedly fell into the driver’s seat while officers were tending to him – and he had two young children in the car with him.

Detective Constable Les Ellmer, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “Siziba’s actions were incredibly selfish, not only putting his life and the lives of other road users at risk, but also choosing to drink-drive while his own children were in the car.”

“I would like to thank the person who called us to report this. If anyone thinks someone is driving under the influence of drink or drugs, always dial 999,” he added.
