McCaffery’s hiring was announced Monday by the University of Indianapolis.

“After a high-level playing career, Connor had the opportunity to contribute and learn alongside one of the best coaching staffs in the NBA,” Butler coach Thad Matta said in a statement.

“These experiences will be invaluable to our team. He obviously comes from a basketball family that I know very well and I’m excited about the impact he’s going to have on our program, both quickly and in the long term.”

McCaffery played for the Iowa Hawkeyes in college and was coached by his father Fran McCaffery before becoming the basketball development coordinator for the Indiana Pacers during the 2023-24 season.

Her relationship with Clark was revealed in 2023 ahead of the WNBA All-Star’s final season in Iowa.

McCaffery joined Clark in New York earlier this year when she was selected with the Fever’s first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

“Celebrating you is easy 🙂 I’m grateful to have someone as selfless and loving as you in my life,” Clark wrote on Instagram. “May this be the year you finally find a way to surpass me 😉 I love you always.”

Clark’s message to McCaffery on Monday came a day after she broke the WNBA’s rookie season scoring record in the Fever’s 110-109 win Sunday against the Dallas Wings.

According to ESPN, Indiana’s superstar guard recorded 761 points in 39 appearances, breaking the record of 744 points previously held by Seimone Augustus.

Clark is averaging 19.5 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists.

She scored a career-high 35 points on Sunday.
