Four Rivers Sanitation Announces Change in Billing Process

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – In January 2025, Four Rivers Sanitation Authority customers in Rockford and Cherry Valley will switch from quarterly to monthly billing cycles.

The villages of Rockton and Winnebago, as well as all well users, will experience the transition this fall.

Resident and business rates will not change, and FRSA suggests customers divide quarterly bills by three to estimate their new monthly payment.

FRSA says the change is intended to improve household budget management, align the timing of sewer bills with fresh water bills and enable earlier detection of service problems.

Along with the change in the billing cycle, the FRSA is simplifying the billing format. Biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, ammonia and phosphorus were previously billed separately, but will now be grouped into a single tariff under the heading “Pollutants”.

“FRSA is committed to providing high-quality service and a clear, understandable billing process for all customers,” said Tim Hanson, FRSA’s Executive Director. “The transition to monthly billing and a simplified invoice format is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the customer experience.”
