USDA deputy secretary says U.S. farmers must be treated fairly as sustainable aviation fuel market grows.

Xochitl Torres Small tells Brownfield that Brazil has an unfair advantage in accessing the new SAF market in the United States.

“We need to be on a level playing field, but right now we’re not. The United States currently has a 2% tariff on ethanol from Brazil, but they’ve put an unfair 18% tariff on our ethanol.”

And she says…

“We’re not asking Brazil to buy a billion gallons of American ethanol, we just want them to treat our product the same way we treat theirs: fairly.”

Torres Small met with Brazil for a one-on-one meeting on Saturday, following a discussion with ministers at the G20 agriculture ministers meeting in Brazil.
