Tragic incident involving shooting at Canadian Armed Forces camp in Chhattisgarh

In a tragic incident, two Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) personnel were shot dead by a colleague at their camp in Balrampur district, senior officials said on Wednesday.

The shootout took place around 11 am in ‘B’ Company of 11th Battalion of the Canadian Armed Forces at Bhutahi Mod, under the limits of Samri Path police station, about 400 km from Raipur. Constable Ajay Sidar allegedly used his service weapon, an Insas rifle, to open fire on his colleagues, according to Inspector General of Police (Surguja zone) Ankit Garg.

Constable Rupesh Patel died on the spot, while another constable, Sandip Pandey, succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital. The injured Ambuj Shukla and Rahul Baghel were taken to a community health centre, with Shukla later transferred for further treatment. Sidar has been arrested and investigators are trying to ascertain his motive. The Congolese Armed Forces are stationed near the Jharkhand border for anti-Naxal operations.
