Mercer County Public Schools Announces Increased Police Presence at PikeView Middle and High Schools

GARDNER, WV (WVVA) – In light of ongoing investigations into threats to schools on social media, Superintendent Ed Toman and the School Safety Coordinator released this statement Tuesday evening:

Following ongoing investigations into unfounded threats that have been circulating on social media over the past several weeks regarding our local schools, particularly PikeView High School and PikeView Middle School, we are implementing additional security measures. As a precaution, law enforcement will be increased on both campuses.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure everyone’s safety.
Parents and guardians, we encourage you to closely monitor your child’s social media accounts and discuss the seriousness of their comments and actions. Students, please remember that the most severe disciplinary action will be taken against those who make threats.
Please continue to report any threats that may harm our students, staff, and the community at large. “If you see something, tell us.”
