Topeka Middle School Confirms No Gun Involvement

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – An official with Topeka Public Schools (TPS) USD 501 confirmed with 13 NEWS that no incident involving a firearm occurred at Eisenhower Middle School on Wednesday, September 18.

TPS staff and families received the following message today:

“Dear TPS Staff and Families: Local law enforcement has confirmed that rumors are circulating throughout Kansas regarding social media communications focused on general threats to schools. While no substantiated threats have been made to our schools, we want to remind families that when concerns are shared with local law enforcement, they investigate and work in partnership with our schools to ensure school safety. Additionally, all schools conduct safety drills throughout the year and we thank our local law enforcement for their continued support during the various safety drills. If you have any questions or needs, please contact your child’s principal. Thank you for your support as we continue to have high visibility of our school officers to ensure the safety of staff and students.”

TPS added that it is committed to ensuring the safety of all its students and staff.
