Inactive during the game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots

■ The Jets, who snapped their overall and road losing streak against the Patriots with a 17-3 win on snow in last season’s finale at Gillette Stadium, are looking to do the same after their eight-game losing streak against the Pats at MetLife. The last win: 2015 and Eric Decker’s “Meadowlands Leap” to celebrate his game-winning touchdown in overtime in the Jets’ 26-20 victory.

■ Monday night in San Francisco didn’t go the way the team wanted, but Thursday night at the Meadowlands could be different. The Jets have lost six straight Thursday night games since their two TNF wins over the Bills in 2016-17. They’re eager to get that magic back in prime time.

But the biggest reason for a win is to keep the Jets in the thick of things to compete with all of their division brethren and give themselves the best possible chance to win the AFC East title for the first time since 2002 and secure a spot in the playoffs. For all of those reasons, a win over the Patriots isn’t a matter of life and death, but it is a big one.

The Jets will be without defensive and team leader CJ Mosley, who is inactive due to a toe injury he suffered against the Titans. This will be the first Jets game Mosley has missed since missing a game in 2021. Jamien Sherwood is expected to move into the starting lineup in Mosley’s place.

They won’t be listing LB Jermaine Johnson on their injury report tonight as they placed him on injured reserve today due to his Achilles injury suffered in Tennessee’s win over the Titans on Sunday.

Starting running back DJ Reed also won’t be on the roster as he is active and ready to return after missing a game with a knee injury. And with cornerback Michael Carter II out with an ankle injury, it appears the Jets’ defensive secondary will be at full strength.

Here is the list of the Jets’ six inactive players for tonight’s game:

  • RB Izzy Abanikanda
  • CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse
  • LB CJ Mosley
  • DL Eric Watts
  • T-Max Mitchell
  • T. Carter Warren

The Patriots placed one of their guards on injured reserve this week, but it wasn’t MLB captain and defensive back Ja’Whaun Bentley, who tore his pectoral muscle in the first half against Cincinnati last week. Backup Oshane Ximines was also injured and placed on injured reserve. Bentley’s injury is expected to end the season, but the Patriots, while deactivating Bentley for this game, kept him on their active roster. Raekwon McMillan is expected to move to the middle against the Jets.

Additionally, first-year head coach after Bill Belichick, Jerod Mayo, said Wednesday that the starters on the left side of his offensive line — LT Vederian Lowe (knee) and LG Sidy Sowe, who will miss his third game with an ankle injury — will also be inactive.

The list of six inactive Patriots players:

  • LB Ja’Whaun Bentley
  • QB Joe Milton
  • Central defender Marco Wilson
  • BY Jamree Kromah
  • T. Vederian Lowe
  • G Sidy Sow
