Lompoc man accused of shooting at Buellton home, charged with attempted murder

A Lompoc man was arrested Nov. 8 and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired multiple rounds at a home in Buellton and fled in his truck to the Lompoc Home Depot, according to a news release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office . No injuries have been reported.

Officers responded to a disturbance on Valley Station Drive in downtown Buellton on Friday at 8:55 p.m., where they were told Sergio Martin Lopez Hernandez, 35, allegedly “yelled obscenities at the victim” before pulling a firearm from his waistband and fired shots. inside the house. Lopez Hernandez was known to the male victim, whose identity has not been released.

The suspect is said to have “driven away at a high rate of speed,” and an alert for the suspect’s Ford F150 was broadcast to police in the area. The truck was spotted by California Highway Patrol in the Lompoc Home Depot parking lot at 9:10 p.m. and the suspect was quickly apprehended by officers. A loaded firearm was found in the suspect’s car, with the serial number scratched out of it.

Lopez Hernandez was booked into the Northern Branch Jail on felony charges of attempted murder, altering identifying marks on a firearm and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, as well as misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and carrying a loaded firearm in public. He is being held on $1 million bail.
