At Oak Creek City Hall, voters could begin dropping off their absentee ballots in the drop box.

“I think it’s wonderful that they have it,” Robin Matchett-Schmidt said.

Matchett-Schmidt is looking forward to voting by mail as soon as she receives her ballot.

“I have five kids, I work full time and I have a lot of things to do, so it’s nice to have that option, and it’s nice to have that option for people who can’t get out and do it,” Matchett-Schmidt said.

In Milwaukee, Elections Executive Director Paulina Gutierrez showed TMJ4 the process of mailing ballots and what happens when they are returned to ensure a secure election.

“Even when the ballots come in, we make sure that the envelope and the ballot are eligible, meaning the voter signed it, is there a witness signature?” Gutierrez said. “They are stored securely in our polling place until Election Day, when they are counted.”

Drop boxes will open in the City of Milwaukee on Monday, October 14.

Cheryl Farnsworth tells TMJ4 she voted by mail in the 2020 election.

“We brought our ballot here to the Oak Creek Library and dropped it in the drop box,” Farnsworth said.

In the next election, she plans to vote at her polling station.

“I prefer to go in person, because it’s a little more personal, and I like to get out and vote that day,” Farnsworth said.

Cheryl and Robin hope that everyone who can will make their voices heard.

“No matter what side you’re on, you’ve got to go out and do it,” Matchett-Schmidt said.

Election day is November 5.
