Rebecca Black remixes “Friday” with Charli XCX

No one lists days like Rebecca Black.

Rebecca Black’s “Friday” is an anthem of our times. The song went viral in 2011, not necessarily for the right reasons: people were criticizing a thirteen-year-old girl for releasing an absurd song that she didn’t write or produce.

Today, the song itself is thirteen years old and has seeped into our collective subconscious, both for what it is and for its origins. In fact, some would say the tune predicted the TikTok dance of our pop culture in a broader sense, for better or worse.

Need a little reminder? Even if you don’t, today is literally Friday; it’s like listening to “Jingle Bell Rock” on Christmas Day!

It turns out that Black continues to evolve his musical signature.

Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ Remix Takes a ‘Brat’ Turn

During a DJ set at Los Angeles club Boiler Room, Black played a mash-up of Charli XCX’s “Friday” and Charli’s “360” made by YouTuber felipe.mp3.

Pretty universally praised at the time, “Friday’s” redemption arc feels almost complete. I mean, just look at the joy and elation on the faces of those Boiler Room viewers. Plus, those online have reacted with nothing but apparent positivity.

“Never stop, queen, keep singing,” comments one X user.

“I say this honestly and without irony, your song is relaxing and does not hurt anyone. Go wild, my girl,” wrote another.

“I love you! You’re the one who makes this bread,” said another.

As Black herself posted, her use of the song will likely never go away.

It’s a masterful lesson in how to accept the discomfort of your past.
