What We Know About Amazon’s SPIDER-MAN NOIR Series

Amazon MGM Studios has added eight recurring cast members to its upcoming live-action series SPIDER-MAN NOIR.

The cast now includes Lukas Haas (INCEPTION), Cameron Britton (A MAN CALLED OTTO), Cary Christopher (FULLER HOUSE), Michael Kostroff (THE WIRE), Scott MacArthur (EL CAMINO: A BREAKING BAD MOVIE), Joe Massingill (KILLING IT), Whitney Rice (SUITS) and Amanda Schull (SUITS). Variety reported that “exact character details are being kept under wraps.”

These additions join “series lead Nicolas Cage as well as fellow cast members Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li and Jack Huston,” Variety added.

The series follows “an aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York (who) is forced to confront his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

“This will mark the live-action debut of Spider-Man Noir, inspired by the Marvel Comics hero who rules an alternate-reality version of New York City during the Great Depression,” Screen Rant reported.

Gleeson’s role was officially confirmed earlier this month. While details of his character are also under wraps, it is believed that he will play the show’s main villain.

Cage, who will play Spider-Man Noir, told Comic Book Movie that he describes the series as “more of a pop-art mashup, like a Lichtenstein painting.”

“I don’t like violence,” he continued. “I don’t want to play characters who hurt other people. One of the things I like about this potential show is that it’s fantasy. It’s not really about people hitting other people. There are monsters in the story.”

The series will be “produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video. Harry Bradbeer (FLEABAG, KILLING EVE) will direct and produce the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (THE LOST CITY, 22 JUMP STREET) and Steve Lightfoot (THE PUNISHER, SHANTARAM) will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers,” according to Deadline.

Movieguide® has already reported on Cage:

While Nicolas Cage has appeared in nearly every genre of film there is, the prodigious actor revealed the projects he dislikes and the ones he’s still excited about today in a recent interview with The New Yorker.

While Cage’s recent films have included a range of violent characters, such as his portrayal of Dracula in 2023’s RENFIELD — which Movieguide® rated -4 and called “one of the bloodiest and most violent mainstream horror films ever made” — or his role as the upcoming horror serial killer LONGLEGS, the actor has revealed that he doesn’t enjoy violence and instead gravitates toward projects about people.

“I don’t like violence,” Cage said. “I don’t want to play characters who hurt other people. One of the things I like about this potential show (SPIDER-MAN NOIR) is that it’s fantasy. It’s not really about people fighting each other.”

Instead, Cage likes to take on roles that would have inspired him as a child – roles that focus on great direction and storytelling rather than mainstream films that pay him a big paycheck.
