Richard Osman talks about his ‘failures’ and gives an update on his latest book | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Richard Osman says he is confident about his new book, We Solve Murders, and is not afraid of failure.

The new book marks the start of a new crime series from the beloved former Pointless presenter, 53. On top of that, Osman’s previous hit The Thursday Murder Club is being adapted into a Netflix film.

The adaptation will feature a star-studded cast including Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Richard E. Grant and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Osman has enjoyed remarkable success recently, with the fourth instalment in The Thursday Murder Club series becoming one of the UK’s best-selling books of last year, according to Amazon Books sales data.

However, the House of Games host openly admits that he doesn’t feel any pressure to make his new book “a success.”

“I honestly don’t feel any pressure in terms of sales,” he says. “I’ve had a career where I’ve had successes and a lot more failures, and there’s less pressure when there’s success,” he told Radio Times.

“You just have to write what comes from the heart. That has always been my rule: never write to impress, never write to succeed.”

“Just write what you want to write and you can’t go too far wrong.”

His new book introduces two compelling new protagonists: Steve Wheeler, a reluctant former cop turned private investigator, and his stepdaughter Amy, a daring private security agent driven by a thirst for adventure and adrenaline.

The synopsis for the new book is as follows: “Steve Wheeler is enjoying his retirement. He does the occasional investigative piece, but he prefers his familiar habits and routines: the pub quiz, his favourite bench, his cat waiting for him when he gets home. His adventurous days are over: the adrenaline rush is now the business of his daughter-in-law Amy.

“Amy Wheeler believes adrenaline is good for the soul. As a private security guard, she doesn’t stay still long enough out of habit or routine. She’s currently on a remote island keeping world-renowned author Rosie D’Antonio alive. What was supposed to be an easy job…

“Then a dead body, a bag of money, and a killer with his eyes on Amy prompt her to send an SOS to the one person she trusts. A frantic race around the world begins, but can Amy and Steve stay one step ahead of a deadly enemy?”
