Queens man charged in high-speed chase that ended in Bronx

Westchester County police have arrested a Queens man who they say led police on a high-speed chase that began in Mount Vernon, through Yonkers and ended in the Bronx.

Kieran O’Leary, public information officer for the Westchester County Police Department, said Norwood News The incident began at 9:27 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, when a police officer observed a Nissan Altima driving at a high rate of speed on the Bronx River Parkway northbound at Oak Street in Mount Vernon.

According to O’Leary, the driver refused to stop and hit two vehicles during the chase. “Our officers stopped the Altima in a construction zone near the Bronx-Westchester border,” he said. “The driver hit one of our patrol cars and then drove off, striking the arm of one of our officers who had to swerve out of the way.”

O’Leary said the chase ended at East Gun Hill Road (on the border of Norwood and Williamsbridge) when the driver fled the promenade on foot toward Webster Avenue. He said NYPD officers, along with a K-9 unit and air force, participated in the search for the suspect, who was located at 3580 Webster Avenue in Norwood and taken into custody without further incident.

Westchester County police arrested Bryan Daney, 22, of East 229th Street in Queens and said he was charged with reckless endangerment,
assault, criminal mischief, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. O’Leary also said Daney had received several summonses for traffic and traffic violations.

Daney is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
