The Chosen to Expand into ‘Biblical Universe’ with 5 New Shows

Predictions of a “Biblical Cinematic Universe” have proven true, with The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins launching 5&2 Studios and a series of new Bible-inspired stories.

The Chosen series will end with Season 7, concluding the on-screen chronicles of Jesus Christ and his disciples. In 2024, the series was released in theaters, with Season 4 grossing $59 million worldwide.

A full-fledged franchise is now set to be born from this religious drama, with Dallas Jenkins launching 5&2 Studios. According to its mission, the studio plans to “produce Bible-inspired stories through uniquely authentic, human storytelling and audience engagement.”

The studio will produce a series of new television series, all spin-offs of The Chosen. Here is a list of all the series in development at 5&2 Studios:

  • The chosen adventures
  • The Chosen in Nature with Bear Grylls
  • Untitled Moses Series
  • Untitled Series Acts of the Apostles
  • Untitled Joseph Series

The biblical universe kicks off with The Chosen Adventures, an animated series that focuses on Jesus’ interactions with a group of children. Jenkins said of the series (via Variety), “There’s room here to tell the story of Jesus through the eyes of children in the whimsical format of animation.”

Next up is The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, which will see Jenkins take on various challenges alongside Chosen fan Bear Grylls in a six-part adventure series. This won’t be the only reality-based series coming, as Jenkins teased: “This is the first in a series of partnerships in the unscripted space.”

After the seventh season of The Chosen ends, a three-season series about Moses’ life will follow. Jenkins called it an “epic story,” even describing Moses as “a reluctant Tony Soprano, basically the guy who was tasked with running the greatest family in the world — and didn’t want to.”

Finally, two series are still in development: Acts of the Apostles and The Story of Joseph. The Joseph series “can be told in eight episodes,” Jenkins said, while details of The Apostles series remain under wraps.

The Chosen began life as an independent, crowdfunded short film in 2017. Now, seven years later, Jenkins’ universe continues to expand, with his own studio and theatrical releases. Marvel Jesus, anyone?
