A tragic incident took place in Jalandhar, Punjab on Saturday where an ammonia gas leak from an ice factory near Domoria Bridge claimed one life. Several people reported symptoms of asphyxiation due to the gas.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, with fire engines and an ambulance responding. Six people were rescued from the factory, but one person, who was found unconscious, later succumbed to the effects of the gas. The other people rescued are said to be in a stable condition.

The local deputy commissioner has launched a judicial inquiry into the incident, directing the sub-divisional magistrate to submit a detailed report within 15 days. The area has been cordoned off and traffic diverted to ensure public safety. Residents have expressed concerns over the strong smell of ammonia and its suffocating effects.
