Concerned parent finds loaded gun magazine at Las Vegas indoor playground

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A fully loaded gun magazine was found inside the LOL Kids Club in the southwest valley Thursday morning.

The concerned parent who discovered the incident contacted Channel 13 to report the incident. We wanted to know what this company is doing to keep children safe and what the response was from law enforcement.

“We went in, there wasn’t a lot of people there. Maybe three families or so. I put my stuff down and my daughter started running around. About 10 minutes later, she ran over to the net tower and as she was crawling through it, you know, she bumped into something. I was like, ‘What is that?’ I picked it up and it was a gun magazine. Obviously, I’m shocked that it was there and in plain sight,” said the parent who found the magazine.

The father, who wished to remain anonymous, immediately grabbed the 17-round magazine and handed it to the check-in counter employees.

He said workers assured him they would report the incident to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

According to the Metro, officers responded to a call about a “lost property” just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Officers seized the charger and it is now in the possession of LVMPD.

The Metro said it was a “non-criminal” incident because it was simply found bullets and not an actual firearm.

“Somebody brings a gun onto private property where there are children. That person needs to be investigated and prosecuted. And if it’s a gun owner, that’s a very irresponsible way to handle it and that person needs to be investigated.”

A quick search on the LOL Kids Club website will find you the terms and conditions agreement, which states “Alcohol, drugs and/or weapons are strictly prohibited.”

The father we spoke to is concerned that the establishment does not take “the safety of its customers seriously.”

“Either this charger was left overnight and wasn’t found by the evening cleaning crew or before opening; or it was dropped off by one of the parents who got there before us between 11 and 11:30; or it belonged to an employee,” the father said. “I want to make sure that if the kids are going to go there, it’s a safe environment… I feel bad that this happened to a small local business, but safety first.”

“It’s just another thing — a reminder — to really be vigilant when you’re a parent,” said Aaron Aguilar, another parent who takes his daughters to the indoor playground.

Aguilar said he would not oppose additional security at the facility following the incident.

“If there can be more safety measures to ensure the safety of the playground, I’m all for it as a parent,” Aguilar said.

As for the anonymous parent, he said the incident made him weary of returning to the indoor playground.

“It was not satisfying to talk about the safety of my children, other people’s children and the community,” he said.

Channel 13 emailed and called the LOL Kids Club to find out more about what happened.
