Petersburg police arrest man for 2022 murder in Pecan Acres

PETERSBURG — A person arrested in connection with a shooting Friday afternoon near the city’s Cool Spring neighborhood has been linked to a 2022 killing in the city’s Pecan Acres community.

Q’Shawn Scott, 28, was arrested Friday near Halifax Street and Baylors Lane when officers responded to a call of shots fired. Through that investigation, police linked Scott to the Sept. 10 shooting death of a man on Cottonwood Drive in Pecan Acres.

Scott has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He also has an arrest warrant for domestic assault.

Friday’s arrest was the second this week in a homicide in the city.

Jamal Burrows, 34, was arrested Sept. 17 in Hopewell for the Aug. 6 murder of Devere McKinney in the 200 block of Holly Hill Drive. He was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Scott and Burrows are both being held at the Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George’s County.
