Maili teen charged with murder of Makaha rancher

MAKAHA (HawaiiNewsNow) – An Oahu grand jury has indicted 17-year-old Chantston Pila Kekawa on second-degree murder charges.

The teenager allegedly shot Makaha rancher Cranston Pia in February.

Teenager Maili is being prosecuted as an adult.

He is also charged with several firearms-related offenses, theft and terrorist threats.

The teenager’s lawyer claims he opened fire in self-defense.

He is now being held without bail awaiting trial.
