Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces two new Indian consulates in Boston and Los Angeles

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that India will open two new consulates in the United States, one in Boston and the other in Los Angeles, to accommodate the growing Indian-American community in these cities.

Both cities have seen their Indian-American populations grow in recent years, and with it, the need for infrastructure. Boston is considered the education capital of the United States, while Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the country.

“Dear friends, last year, I announced that our government intended to open a new consulate in Seattle. It is now operational. I have sought your suggestions for two more consulates. I am happy to announce that after considering your suggestions, India has decided to open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles,” the Prime Minister announced during Modi’s meeting with the US in New York on Sunday.

Prime Minister Modi made the announcement before a cheering crowd of around 13,000 Indian-Americans at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum on Long Island. The event was part of the prime minister’s busy schedule for his three-day visit to the US.

Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with the leaders of the US, Japan and Australia at the Quad Summit in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, September 21.

He is also expected to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly summit in New York.
