Former group home worker arrested for assaulting a woman with a disability in Wethersfield

WETHERSFIELD, CT (WFSB) – A former group home worker was accused of assaulting a woman with disabilities in Wethersfield.

Wethersfield police said they have charged 24-year-old Kendra Demudd of Hartford with second-degree assault on a person with an intellectual disability, second-degree reckless endangerment and cruelty to persons.

Police said the incident occurred on October 13, but was not notified until October 30.

It happened at a HARC, Inc. group home. on Eastern Drive. The group home offers 24/7 services to the mentally and physically disabled.

Police said their investigation revealed that a resident of the group home, a 28-year-old nonverbal woman with autism, was assaulted multiple times by a staff member during the early morning hours of Oct. 13.

The victim suffered multiple head/facial wounds and a closed fracture of the nasal bones, police said. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said two group home employees involved in the incident were fired before the incident was reported to them.

Following the investigation, an arrest warrant for Demudd was approved.

Demudd turned himself in on Wednesday, November 13.

She was held on a court-set bond of $50,000 and was scheduled to appear in court on November 13.
