Tow truck driver hospitalized after being hit by van robbery suspect

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A tow truck driver is in the hospital after a hit-and-run at Suburban Towing Monday morning.

According to Gina Johns, co-CEO of Suburban Towing, the tow truck driver was returning from work around 1:15 a.m. Monday when he noticed a man in a black pickup truck rummaging through a work truck. The tow truck driver approached the man, but the confrontation quickly escalated.

Johns said the driver and the man fought and the suspect jumped into his truck and sped off, hitting the tow truck driver and the truck’s trailer in the process.

Johns said the tow truck driver suffered several head injuries, including broken bones, but is expected to survive and be released from hospital soon.

Surveillance video sent to WAVE News by the company shows the vehicle suspected of the crime. Johns said the man is described as white, about 6 feet tall and with a beard. A woman was also seen in the passenger seat of the pickup.

An LMPD spokesperson confirmed they were investigating the incident, but did not provide further details.

If you think you recognize the van in the video, call the LMPD anonymous hotline at 574-LMPD.
