The Block 2024: Maddy and Charlotte react to the renovation drama

In one of the first headline-grabbing moments The Block In 2024, contestants Jesse and Paige left the show early in the competition, leaving House #1 as a half-finished shell of a vacation home.

Luckily, the Phillip Island property’s renovations were saved by the arrival of Sydney sisters Maddy and Charlotte, who quickly took over the reins of renovating the home and, despite only completing a handful of rooms, the duo often found themselves at the top of the leaderboard.

Despite their high-profile work, Maddy and Charlotte’s short stint on the show wasn’t without its fair share of signatures. Block drama, with fellow competitors and fans questioning their resume in Reno.

After their successful master bedroom and kitchen renovation, Maddy and Charlotte were the catalyst for more drama on The Block after their fellow competitors discovered they already had experience selling homes.

“They lied outright. They told us they were accountants, but they didn’t mention that they had done property renovations. They asked for advice on how to do things in a building, when they clearly knew everything,” said candidate Haydn. Television Weekwith his teammate Ricky continuing to proclaim that Maddy and Charlotte had an unfair advantage.

In defense of her position, Maddy explained that Mimi, from House 5, directly asked about their previous experience, stating, “We told (Mimi) our story of renovating houses. We never lied. If the others had asked us about our experience, we would have shared it, but they never did.”

While their fellow contestants may have seen this as an unfair advantage, fans on social media were quick to defend Maddy and Charlotte’s participation in the show.

“The girls said they have full time jobs (finance and college). Flipping houses is a hobby of theirs,” one fan wrote on Facebook.

“It’s not like any of them made the effort to get to know the girls. They don’t owe each other anything,” another added.

Outside of The Block, The sisters both recently graduated with their respective degrees, with Maddy studying accounting and Charlotte completing her Bachelor of Commerce.

Before joining the show, the sisters had shared their house flipping journey on social media – buying their first property in Newcastle, New South Wales in 2020.

After completing their first renovation, their Newcastle property was then subdivided and sold and as of September 2024, Maddy and Charlotte are currently working on three more builds with even more on the way.
