Band Announces Death of Famous Southern Rocker at 70

Freddie Salem, guitarist for the popular Southern rock band The Outlaws, has died.

He was 70 years old.

His death was first reported on the Facebook page of his current band, Freddie Salem & Lonewolf.

“This morning the heavens opened for the arrival of a legend,” the post read. “Rock on high, Freddie Salem. Until we meet again.”

The Outlaws also posted an article on their Facebook page about Salem’s death.

“It is with heavy hearts that we must announce to Outlaws fans the passing of our former guitarist Freddie Salem,” the message has been read. “Freddie passed away due to complications from cancer. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and passion for music. He first appeared with the Outlaws on the album Playin’ to Win and then remained with the band for the next 4 albums. He was an electric performer and a beloved musician, and he will be missed.”

According to Deadline, Salem joined the Outlaws in 1977 when he replaced Henry Paul in the band. He was with the Outlaws on their “Some Girls” tour with the Rolling Stones.

Salem was originally from Akron, Ohio.
