Lady Gaga Announces ‘Joker 2’ ‘Harlequin’ Album With 13 Songs

It looks like there will be two Lady Gaga albums coming in the coming months.

The singer, who announced she will release the first single from her seventh studio album next month, has just announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming film “Joker: Madness and Two,” in which she stars with Joaquin Phoenix.

“Harlequin” will be released on September 27 and will feature 13 songs. Ahead of the announcement, Gaga teased her fans with Instagram posts: “I’m ready for my interview,” one read, while another read, “Don’t tell me what to wear.” A third post, accompanied by the solitary strumming of an acoustic guitar, read, “No tape. No mission.” She also teased the album earlier this week with billboards featuring the number “6.5,” likely meaning she doesn’t consider this album a full-length Lady Gaga studio album, unlike the upcoming album, which has been abbreviated as “LG7.”

Gaga is starring in the musical Joker: Folie à Deux, which features songs but is unlike anything I’ve done before, she said recently in an interview with Empire. The film opens October 4. The Grammy and Oscar winner stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the film, as Lee, a reimagining of Harley Quinn.

The tracklist for the soundtrack album appears below. As expected, these are said to be newly recorded versions of classic songs like “That’s Entertainment” that appear in the film.

Both albums follow her recent surprise single with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile.” While little information about her new album has emerged, Gaga has been hard at work on the album for several months, having released numerous photos of herself in the studio.

A representative tells Variety “Die With a Smile” will not be included on “LG7.” Gaga said in the press materials accompanying the song, “I was finishing my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on. It was about midnight when I got there and I was blown away when I heard what he had started to do. We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song.”

It seems likely that Grammy-winning songwriter-producer Andrew Watt, who started out as a pop producer but has pivoted heavily toward rock, producing the Rolling Stones’ “Hackney Diamonds” last year as well as projects with Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne and others, is also involved: He also posted about the Gaga/Bruno song on social media Thursday. Additionally, a photo of her in the studio with longtime collaborator Bloodpop and producer/vocal engineer Benjamin Rice circulated last fall.

At the premiere of the film “Chromatica Ball,” Gaga said, “I’ve written and produced so many songs.” She added, “This is unlike anything I’ve ever done before.” Gaga hinted that she enjoys stepping outside the box and exploring music. “There’s something really beautiful about knowing that you’re going to be loved no matter what you do.”
