Deputies investigating after woman appears to have stolen package from Lauderdale Lakes home

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a possible coordinated package theft scheme in Lauderdale Lakes.

Residents told Local 10 News Tuesday that a woman and her accomplice were caught on surveillance camera stealing a delivery from a homeowner’s porch and also taking packages from delivery trucks in the area.

The incident occurred about two weeks ago in the northwest area of 36th Terrace and 29th Courtyard.

In the video, the woman casually walks past Glen Thurston’s home before returning to steal a package from his doorstep. She quickly flees when a white SUV pulls up and appears to throw the stolen package into the vehicle and jumps inside before the couple drives away.

Thurston reported that the woman and her accomplice were seen by residents after the pair allegedly followed delivery trucks and stole packages shortly after they were dropped off in the area.

“In other cameras from my other neighbors and the association, we saw the UPS truck going to another address and we saw this same white truck,” he said.

Thurston told Local 10 News the stolen package contained a two-tier air fryer he had given to his mother.

Authorities said neighbors’ surveillance footage corroborates the incident, showing the same white SUV following UPS trucks in the area.

Thurston contacted the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which is currently investigating the thefts.

“I feel violated,” he said. “I think I’ll just have my orders delivered here to work.”

In a related incident, Local 10 News reported a similar package theft that occurred in Hialeah on Monday.

In this case, an unidentified man followed a FedEx driver and attempted to steal a package by posing as a resident. An attentive employee intervened, took a photo of the man’s vehicle, and prevented the theft.

A video posted online shows the driver, while making a delivery Friday afternoon, being approached by a man wearing a gray hoodie.

Police said the man claimed to be the owner of the house and wanted to take the packages, which contained new iPhones.

But the driver, whose identity has not been revealed, did not believe it. He asked the man to open the door to prove that he lived there.

“Open the door,” the delivery man could be heard saying.

The real owner, who asked to be identified only by his first name, Anthony, watched the scene unfold from a distance.

“He said, ‘No, you don’t live here – and if you do live here, open the door and show me some ID and I’ll give you the phones,’” Anthony recalled.

The man was then seen driving away in a red Hyundai.

FedEx released a statement to Local 10 News regarding the incident, which read, in part:

“The security of our customers’ shipments is our top priority and we appreciate the speed with which our carrier ensures that the shipment has been delivered to its intended recipient. We encourage any customer who believes a shipment has been stolen to contact local law enforcement immediately.”

Authorities are investigating both incidents and are asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
