Bengaluru Murder: 4 police teams sent to Odisha to nab accused, says K’taka Home Minister

Bangalore: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Wednesday said four police teams have been sent to Odisha to arrest the accused in Mahalaxmi’s murder.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Parameshwara said police teams were sent to Odisha after receiving information that the accused was hiding there.

“Once the accused is arrested, all the details of the case will be known. The police have taken two to three people into custody. Evidence has been presented against the person in Odisha,” Parameshwara said.

The murder case came to light after neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from Mahalaxmi’s house for two days and informed her relatives. Mahalaxmi’s mother and sister came to her house on Saturday and witnessed the gruesome scene.

Mahalaxmi was murdered, her body cut into more than 50 pieces and stuffed in a refrigerator, police said.

Although the refrigerator was in working order, the body was infested with maggots. A suitcase was found near the refrigerator.

Police suspect that Mahalaxmi was murdered earlier this month and her body was cut into pieces with a sharp weapon like a knife or sword.

Mahalaxmi, originally from Tripura, worked at a popular shopping mall here.

According to residents of the neighbourhood where Mahalaxmi had been living for the past five months, she lived alone and did not mix much with her neighbours. Her brother stayed with her for a few days.

Police also discovered that she was married and had a son, but was living separately.

On Monday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said, “We have clear information about the accused who committed the crime.”

The accused hails from another state and was residing in Bengaluru, Dayananda said.
