Pentagon Announces US State Department Approves Arms Deal With Egypt

The US Pentagon announced on Tuesday that the US State Department had approved a potential sale of Stinger missiles to Egypt for $740 million.

The Pentagon explained that “the prime contractor for the potential sale will be RTX Corporation.”

The US State Department spokesperson announced earlier that the administration of US President Joe Biden had informed Congress of its intention to disburse the full amount of military aid to Egypt, $1.3 billion, this year.

This is the first time since 2020 that Egypt has received full US aid.

The US State Department considers this an important decision aimed at strengthening regional peace in the region and Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

“This decision is important to advance regional peace and Egypt’s specific and ongoing contributions to U.S. national security priorities, particularly to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, return hostages to their homes, increase humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, and help bring a permanent end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas,” the State Department spokesperson said.

In early September, the Egyptian-US Strategic Dialogue was held in Cairo, with the participation of the foreign ministers of the two countries and a group of Egyptian ministers to discuss joint cooperation in economy, investment, tourism and technology.
