Swatting incident at Austin high school prompts police response

The Austin Independent School District said security measures have been put in place at Austin High School following what appears to be a “swatting” incident.

In a post just before 10 a.m., AISD said Austin ISD police responded to a 911 call that apparently originated from Austin High.

The campus has been placed on “secure” status, meaning students and staff remain in place and no one is allowed to enter or leave the building.

Minutes later, AISD said the campus was safe and officers were continuing to sweep the Austin High building.

AISD said the sweep was completed around 10:45 a.m. and the campus was determined to be safe.

Authorities believe it was a “swatting” incident, a false emergency report intended to trigger a response.

The “security” was lifted and normal operations resumed.
