Missouri rain causes Sky Wars fireworks contest to be canceled

The event known as “America’s Premier Fireworks Championship” will not be held this year in Missouri. The annual Sky Wars competition has been canceled for 2024.

The event was scheduled to take place this Saturday, September 28th in Innsbrook, in eastern Missouri. The cancellation is due to heavy rain forecast for this weekend. The event organizers released a statement on the Sky Wars website.

“This decision was not made lightly,” the statement read. “Our fireworks field has already received between 5 and 7 inches of rain this week, depending on your source. We have been in contact with the Warren County Emergency Management Agency, who have consulted with the National Weather Service, who advise us that we should expect an additional 3 inches of rain on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.”

This year’s Sky Wars competition has sold out. The statement also states that tickets will automatically roll over to next year’s event, guaranteeing the ticket holder’s spot “at our 2024 prices.” Those who want a refund will be able to get one.
