South Fulton officials ready to respond as Hurricane Helene approaches

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – South Fulton city officials are prepared and ready to respond as Hurricane Helene approaches with threats including flooding and falling trees.

Fire Chief Chad Jones said emergency response teams would be set up in different parts of the city throughout the storm. According to Jones, the city’s joint operations center is open and ready as of Thursday afternoon.

“We are asking people, as well as our crews, to be safe,” Jones said. “Don’t go into the water. No matter how superficial you think it is. Moving water, standing water – don’t go in there.

Officials are reminding people at home to avoid using candles during a power outage, but to use a flashlight instead. They are also urging people to secure any loose items in the house and avoid leaving the house if possible.
