Semi-retired veterinarian finds new ways to help community

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Years of work can slow you down, but this “semi-retired” man finds joy in getting out and helping the community.

If you find yourself at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM), you might meet Bruce Wozow.

He serves as treasurer of the Houston County Healthcare Authority and vice chair of the ACOM board of directors.

Its main objective is the success of the institution.

The Ashford native splits his time between the ACOM board of directors, the Southeast Health board of directors and other organizations.

“I have been involved in volunteer activities for as long as I can remember,” Wozow said. “It’s just my makeup, I’m a guy who fixes things.”

A repairman whose goal is to identify the problem and find a solution: he has carried out this activity for more than three decades as a veterinarian.

“I have always had an interest in medicine, animals, biology. (So) being a veterinarian fits right into that,” Wozow said.

He has owned and operated Cottonwood Animal Clinic for over 30 years.

The January 9 tornado ravaged the area, leaving pieces behind. For this reason, a decision had to be made.

“How do you close a business that you have been actively involved in for 30 years? » asked Wozow.

He chose not to rebuild. The most heartbreaking thing is not being able to help his former clients like he did when the clinic was still operational.

His profession may have changed slightly, but his heart remains the same.
