Minnesota

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and the perfect place if you value progressive tax policies and want to live in a state where reproductive rights are enshrined in the state Constitution.

As a candidate, Harris touted her plans to raise corporate taxes and create new tax credits while eliminating federal taxes on tips. She said she would not raise taxes on Americans who earn less than $400,000 a year and would restore the child tax credit expansion, as well as a new child tax credit of up to $6,000 for middle-class and low-income families with a child in their first year of life, is a priority for his administration. Finally, she proposed a significant increase – from $5,000 to $50,000 – for new small businesses and down payment assistance of up to $25,000 for first-time home buyers.

Minnesota has the most progressive tax policies in the country, while Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Vermont are also strong. It is also known as a pro-choice state, especially since many states surrounding it have recently enacted abortion bans.

California

It’s no surprise that the Golden State is aligning itself with Harris’ potential policies, including those related to the environment, tax policies, labor protections and more.

With a strong track record of protecting the environment and supporting communities excessively impacted by pollution, Harris was a big supporter of President Joseph Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which includes several incentives in clean energy and electric vehicles designed to reduce fossil fuel pollution and support sustainability. As part of the country’s role in the Paris Agreement, the Harris administration will also need to determine how, when and where it will reduce environmental pollution.

To that end, California touts strong environmental protections and a deep commitment to fighting climate change, alongside Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and Florida.

Illinois

The Land of Lincoln scores well on support for workers’ rights, which Harris has long supported. She recently told a rally in Detroit, “We know that unions built the middle class” and praised the strength of worker organizations.

It also excels in its statewide emphasis on education. Calling education a “fundamental right” when kicking off her 2019 campaign, Harris has already emphasized her desire for universal preschool and free college for some federal jobs. She also called for increased teacher pay nationwide and supported the current administration’s plans to reduce student debt. Finally, she recently advocated for policies that would reduce college degree requirements for certain jobs.

Illinois has voted Democratic in the last eight elections and has become a reliably blue state.

new York

Another Democratic pillar, New York aligns with much of the program proposed by Harris. In fact, it will be hard to find many places where statewide politics don’t align with Harris’ plans for the nation.

A commitment to education: check. A focus on environmental protection: check. Worker protections: check. Liberal social policies: check, check, check. New York is among several East Coast states that largely fit Harris’ potential agenda.

Massachusetts

Small but mighty, Massachusetts leads on progressive social and economic issues. He ranks first when it comes to Harris’ social issues and proposed policies, such as a woman’s right to choose, support for transgender rights and same-sex marriage, affordable housing and much more. It was the first state in the country to propose a right to housing law, guaranteeing homeless people a place to sleep, and the first to legalize same-sex marriage. If you vote for Harris, you can’t go wrong with Massachusetts.
