Portland Thorns great Christine Sinclair announces retirement

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – Soccer great Christine Sinclair announced she will retire from professional soccer on Friday.

Sinclair, the Portland Thorns’ all-time leading scorer, said she plans to retire at the end of the year. She retired from international football last year, ending her career with Canada after a record 331 matches.

The 41-year-old spent 12 seasons playing for the Thorns, almost half of her 25-year professional career across the world.

Sinclair is the only player to be part of every title Portland has won, winning the NWSL Championship in 2013, 2017 and 2022, the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021, as well as the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup and the 2021 Women’s International Champions Cup. and 2020 NWSL Community Shield.

Sinclair and the Thorns have three home games remaining in the regular season; first on October 5, then again on October 11 before fan appreciation night and an evening honoring Sinclair on Friday, November 1.
