Car theft suspect injured after pursuit from Irving to Grand Prairie

A carjacking suspect who led police on a chase from Irving to Grand Prairie early Saturday was slightly injured after the suspect crashed into police cars and officers opened fire, according to a news release .

According to Irving police, officers received a report of a carjacking in progress around 1:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of Meridian Drive. The victim of the theft was pursuing the vehicle, which led the police to intervene quickly and attempt a traffic stop.

The suspect did not stop, sparking a chase. Officers pursued the vehicle to a dead end in the 6500 block of Singleton Boulevard in Grand Prairie, about 11 miles away. The suspect attempted to ram police vehicles, police said. Irving police officers then shot the suspect.

The suspect suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The press release indicates that the suspect will be incarcerated after his release from the hospital. The press release did not specify whether the suspect was shot or what his injuries were.
