Oklahoma State HC didn’t consider QB change despite struggles

Score the Oklahoma State Cowboys for a second straight loss. After being ranked 13th on the season, the Cowboys are more than likely heading into their bye week as an unranked program.

Through five games, Oklahoma State’s offense hasn’t been good, outside of a game against Tulsa and a FCS schedule. In the Big 12 – in which the Cowboys are 0-2 – the offense has been downright bad.

Yet despite the struggles, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy did not consider a quarterback change Saturday.

“I don’t think it’s sometimes what’s best for what we’re trying to accomplish offensively,” Gundy said.

Sure, maybe a quarterback change doesn’t directly help the Cowboys accomplish everything they’re attempting, but it’s hard to imagine it would hurt to try. Oklahoma State surrendered to Garret Rangel a week ago in a tough loss to Utah before putting Alan Bowman back in the game.

Bowman and Rangel appear to be the only two options in Stillwater, as the other two quarterback options are too young and inexperienced for Gundy to consider. In fairness to Gundy – assuming the two young quarterbacks really aren’t ready – Rangel didn’t give the team any more upside a week ago than Bowman did.

In the Cowboys’ 42-20 loss in Manhattan, Bowman completed 26 of 50 passes for 364 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The offense, as mentioned, has not been good for Oklahoma State. With such a veteran offensive team and a superstar in Ollie Gordon, offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn and his staff simply have to be better. There is no excuse for getting caught up in offensive struggles.
