Outraged fans have complained after The Last Dinner Party canceled their gig with just half an hour to go “due to illness”.

The Brixton-based indie rock band have grown in popularity – amid accusations of being an “industrial factory” – and even received a nod at the Brit Awards.

However, the group, made up of Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci, angered spectators with the last-minute cancellation.

The Last Dinner Party were scheduled to perform on Saturday September 28 at the Engine Shed in Lincoln, but did not take the stage, despite support acts reportedly taking place.

Just four days before the cancellation, the venue even announced on Instagram that a limited run of additional tickets were on sale.

“It is with great regret that tonight’s performance at the Lincoln Engine Shed had to be canceled late due to illness,” the venue wrote on social media.

They advised fans to hold on to their tickets and promised an announcement would be made at a later date, but they were trying to reschedule.

By the time the announcement was released, waiting fans had already lined up, entered the venue, watched two supporting acts, and waited for an hour.

They took to X to weigh in on the incredibly late notice, with Chris Kirkwood writing: “Well it was a strange evening. Engine Shed was more than full for The Last Dinner Party.

“Two support acts would come and go, then they would wait for an hour. At 9:30 a.m., finally announced that the show was canceled due to illness. I am now the owner of a t-shirt for a concert that wasn’t a concert.

Sara Jackson added: “Canceled last minute with no notice, very disappointed tonight 😡.”

“Not a single word of apology to the thousands of people waiting for you in the engine room last night at 9 p.m. and no announcement made before 9:30 p.m.? Appalling,” Freya wrote.

Other strange reports later emerged that single men attending the concert had been pulled aside, searched and questioned about their knowledge of the band.

Dan (@alittlebitofdan), a regular at the concert, wrote: “Just arrived at the concert, was funneled into a dark corner with other men, told I might be a pervert because that I am alone, then taken alone to a room with a security guard where I was questioned and searched. I feel sick.

TV icon Rylan Clarke replied “What?” after Dan’s tweet started gaining traction, to which the disappointed fan said he ended up leaving as the interaction “blindsided” him.

Paul reported a similar situation, stating: “I got there this evening at 8:45 p.m. all by myself, with no queue, and was asked how long I’ve loved them and to name my favorite song. I thought it was a bit strange and it was the first time I felt like I was about to walk into a concert. Now that I’ve read this, I understand why now.”

Kam Zaki added: “Same here, I queued for 7 hours to get to the barrier because I’m 4′ 11′, I was taken away, searched, asked condescending questions, I didn’t make it the barrier, it’s better not to do it, the show is cancelled.’

The Last Dinner Party and Engine Room have yet to resolve the stop and seek issues, but the band have since canceled their gig in Cardiff, Wales, this evening (Sunday September 29).

Without commenting on Lincoln’s cancellation, they wrote on Instagram: “With great regret, tonight’s performance at Cardiff Tramshed is canceled due to illness.

“We are so sorry to those of you who were looking forward to the show. Thank you for your understanding, we appreciate you very much and look forward to seeing you again next time.

“Please hold on to your tickets for the show and a further announcement will be made as soon as possible.”
