Governor Jared Polis announces another round of grants dedicated to Colorado educators

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Governor Jared Polis announced a grant program to help teachers obtain school supplies in August, and announced a second round of available funding on Friday.

The initial August grant provided $2.7 million to Colorado educators, which funded approximately 7,700 projects, leaving only 271 without funding. This second round of funding, totaling up to $1.2 million, would give another chance to educators who missed out the first time.

The grant program is funded by federal COVID relief money and provides $600 per teacher.

The state awards the school supply grant in conjunction with DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping teachers obtain funding for the school year through public donations.

Educators who received the grants in August were able to use the money to purchase a variety of items, including:

  • microscopes
  • rocket models
  • gardening supplies
  • frog dissection kits
  • a document camera
  • Books in Spanish
