A tanker named Banglar Joyti caught fire near New Mooring jetty of Chattogram port this morning (September 30).

The ship is owned by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).

Engineer Mohammad Yousuf, executive director (technical) of BSC, confirmed the incident to The Business Standard and said the bow of the ship caught fire around 10:30 am.

“As soon as we were informed, firefighting teams from Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Coast Guard rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control,” he added.

He added: “There were 40 crew members on board. They are also working to extinguish the fire. Further details will be provided later. Our first priority is to extinguish the fire and rescue all members crew”.
