The Far North Line service from Inverness to Wick has been canceled this afternoon due to “illness”, ScotRail has confirmed.

The train operator confirmed the 2pm service from Inverness, due to arrive at Wick at 6.22pm, would not run due to a train driver “falling ill”.

Alternative coach journeys have been arranged for commuters affected by the cancellation.

A statement from the train operator said: “2pm Inverness to Wick, scheduled for 6.22pm, will be cancelled. This is because the train driver fell ill.

“We have ensured that your train tickets are accepted on local bus routes at no extra cost.

“Due to the use of road transport, your journey time will be extended and we apologize for the disruption to your journey on this route.”
