US Embassy announces expansion of visa appointments

The United States Embassy in India announced the availability of 250,000 additional visa appointments for Indian travelers. These appointments concern skilled workers, tourists and students. The move is expected to help visa applicants schedule their interviews more quickly.

The US Embassy made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), stating that it had already exceeded the number of non-immigrant visa applications for the second year in a row. Currently, about six million Indians hold U.S. nonimmigrant visas, and the U.S. mission issues thousands of visas daily.

Efforts to speed up visa processing

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti highlighted the collaborative efforts between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden to improve the visa process. He commended the embassy and consulate teams for working hard to meet the growing demand for visas.

Record number of Indian travelers expected

This year could set a record for the number of Indians traveling to the United States. Last year, 1.76 million Indians visited the United States, and in the first eight months of this year alone, 1.55 million Indians have already traveled to the United States. This number is expected to surpass last year’s by September.

Strengthening India-US ties

Jonathan M. Heimer, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Delhi, noted that India became the second largest source of international visitors to the United States in 2024, reflecting the strong ties between the two peoples. .
