Pulaski County is creating a department to help combat the effects of opioids on the community

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – The County of Pulaski, Virginia has named Katie Thompson the first director of the Office of Drug Prevention and Recovery.

Here @ Home spoke with Thompson about her new role and the newly created department.

Her new and unique role will be to provide comprehensive oversight of drug prevention, recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Pulaski County.

The county will fund the new office with settlement funds from the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority (OAA).

The goal of the Board of Supervisors of the County’s Office of Drug Prevention and Recovery is to meet people where they are and provide them with the drug prevention programs, tools and resources they need; to work more effectively with our various community, non-profit and NGOP partners on prevention, recovery and recovery; and to provide a greater level of acute focus and accountability regarding the variety of programs and services that fall within these areas.
