Bryan Wilson of Narragansett was arrested Monday.

A 27-year-old Rhode Island man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his mother, authorities say.

Bryan Wilson of Narragansett was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree spousal murder and violation of a protection order, police said in a news release.

Police said officers went to 97 Inkberry Trail around 1:26 p.m. Monday for a report of a woman who had died under suspicious circumstances. At the scene, the woman was pronounced dead and Wilson was taken into custody.

Wilson was arraigned Tuesday in the 4th District Court.

Prosecutors said at his arraignment that an argument between Wilson and his mother led to a physical confrontation during which the 27-year-old strangled his mother to death, NECN reports. They allege he then called 911 and confessed, according to the station.

The case has been sent to a grand jury and a status conference is scheduled for October 9.

Police did not release the name of Wilson’s mother and said the investigation was ongoing.
