Govinda’s revolver was seized by the police for further investigation.

Mumbai:

Personnel of the Mumbai crime branch met actor Govinda, who was injured in the leg after his revolver accidentally went off, and inquired from him about the incident, officials said on Wednesday.

While the local police were investigating, the Mumbai crime branch also launched a parallel probe into the incident.

So far, no one has filed a complaint in the case, police said.

The accident took place at the 60-year-old actor’s Mumbai residence on Tuesday and he is currently recovering at a private hospital.

A crime branch team led by senior police inspector Daya Nayak visited the hospital on Tuesday and spoke to the actor about the incident, an official said.

Govinda was alone when the incident took place at his residence in the early hours of Tuesday, he said.

The actor owns a revolver licensed from the Webley company and the bullet hit him near the left knee, the official said.

The revolver, which is old, was not locked and misfired, he said.

The actor’s revolver was seized by the police for further investigation, an official said earlier.

After the incident, Govinda, an audience favorite for his impeccable comic timing and dancing skills, released a statement informing his fans that he was doing better.

A leading star of Hindi cinema in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Govinda appeared in more than 165 films during his career spanning four decades.

In March, a month before the Lok Sabha elections, Govinda joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

This marked Govinda’s re-entry into the political landscape after almost two decades.

The actor won the 2004 election battle from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency on a Congress ticket before retiring from politics in 2008.
