Sydney Sweeney labels Hollywood’s message of ‘women empowering other women’ as ‘fake’

Sydney Sweeney calls out Hollywood over the authenticity of its stance on women’s empowerment.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 27-year-old actress denounced the entertainment industry’s mantra of “women empowering other women” as “fake.”

While speaking to the outlet, Sweeney was asked about a previous incident in which a female producer disparaged the “Euphoria” star’s physical appearance and talent.

“It’s very disheartening to see women tearing down other women, especially when women who are successful in other areas of their industry see young talent working very hard – hoping to make their dreams come true – and then trying to get any job done to bash and discredit. that they did,” Sweeney said.

“All the people say is this whole industry is ‘women empowering other women’. None of this is happening. It’s all fake and a front for everything else, they say, behind everyone’s back.”

The two-time Emmy Award nominee speculated about why she believes women may not actually support other women.

“I mean, there are so many studies and different opinions about the reasoning behind it. I’ve read that we’ve been raised all our lives – and it’s a generational problem – to believe that there can only be one woman at the top. There is one woman who can get the man. There is one woman who can be, I don’t know. something,” she explained.

“So then everyone else feels like they have to fight each other or put that one woman down instead of saying, ‘Let’s all lift each other up,'” the “White Lotus” actress added.

‘I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just doing my best here. Why am I being attacked?’

“None of this is happening. It’s all fake and a cover for all the other things they say are going on behind everyone’s backs.”

In April, longtime film producer Carol Baum attended a screening of her 1988 film “Dead Ringers” at the Jacob Burns Film Center in New York and later criticized Sweeney’s appearance and acting ability, according to the Daily Mail.

The producer recalled seeing Sweeney’s hit film “Everyone But You” when she was on the plane.

“I wanted to know who she is and why everyone is talking about her. I saw this unwatchable movie – sorry for people who like this movie – (this) romantic comedy where they hate each other,” Baum said.

Baum, who also works as a professor at the University of Southern California, added: “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty. She can’t act. Why is she so pretty? ‘”

The producer told the audience “no one had an answer” to her question.

When reached for comment on Baum’s comments, a representative for Sweeney issued a scathing statement on the matter to Fox News Digital.

“How sad that a woman in a position to share her expertise and experience would choose to attack another woman instead,” the statement said. “If that is what she has learned in her decades in the industry and thinks it is appropriate to teach her students, it is shameful. To wrongly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum.”

Baum has been producing films since the 1980s, with films such as ‘Father of the Bride’, ‘Fly Away Home’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ among her credits.

After breaking into acting in 2019 with the success of “Euphoria,” Sweeney founded her production company Fifty-Fifty Films in 2020. In addition to starring in “Anyone But You,” Sweeney served as the film’s executive producer. She also produced and starred in the horror film “Immaculate,” which was released in March.
