New England’s Best Hotels, Resorts, and Airports

New England’s Best Hotels, Resorts, and Airports

TThe Langham is the best hotel in Boston, according to more than half a million travel enthusiasts who voted in Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards. Meanwhile, Condé Nast Traveler, the British version of the magazine, named the Verb Hotel the fourth best hotel in the Americas. Two New England airports, TF Green in Providence and Bradley in Hartford, were named among the best in the country.

The survey, released this week, is an in-depth, industry-wide look at travel favorites, from the friendliest cities to the best ski resorts. Locally, only one hotel, the Weston, located in Vermont’s Green Mountains, made the list of the world’s best hotels, ranking 22nd. The Weston was also voted the best hotel in New England.

Luxury hotels dominated the list of best hotels in Boston. The Langham was closed for two years as it underwent a $200 million renovation at the height of the pandemic, reopening in 2021. The ultra-luxury Raffles Boston opened last year in Back Bay and placed fourth in the standings. The rest of the list was filled with familiar names like XV Beacon and Boston Harbor Hotel.

The eight-room Weston Hotel, located in Weston, Vermont, can claim superiority over any hotel in Boston. It was the only hotel in New England to make the World’s Best Hotels list. The exterior may look like a standard Vermont inn, but inside you’ll find William Morris wallpaper, Frette linens, a gym, and a spa equipped with a steam room and sauna, plus ‘a pétanque court outside. The Beatrice, which opened in 2021 in the 1887 Exchange Building, was the only Providence property to make the list of Best Hotels in New England, ranking 13th.

Condé Nast readers named Winvian Farm in Litchfield Hills, Connecticut, the fourth-largest spa destination in the world and the second-largest spa resort in the United States.

Luxury names also dominate the resort category. Condé Nast readers split their votes between mountain and sea. Chatham Bars Inn was named the best spa in New England, along with perennial favorites such as Twin Farms in Barnard, Vt., and Wequassett Resort and Golf Club in Harwich.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the Reader’s Choice Awards is the list of best airports. The much-maligned LaGuardia was named the second best airport in the country. We are a long way from the days when it was an easy fall. Most of the favorite airports on the list are located in smaller, secondary cities. TF Green in Providence and Bradley in Hartford were seventh and eighth on the list.

Another aviation surprise has arrived on the list of the best domestic airlines. JetBlue, which is facing declining satisfaction scores, was ranked the No. 2 airline by Condé Nast readers.
